Registering on D-Star for the 1st time

With the help of people from my radio club I went about setting up my registration for D-star and still had fun with this.

There are two parts you need to register on and that is the confusing and technical part and then you have to wait for it to be processed and then you can finalise some parts and you should be good to go.

D-star reflector registration
  1. click on register
  2. next page fill in your details and press ok
I can't remember the rest as I did it a while ago but will update when i get my 2e0 but it will take a few days to register then log into it

The important bit log in and and goto your personal details look down to the pc names and 1st long box put your call sighn in and press update this will allow you access to the reflectors

Dcs and Xrf registry
  1.  select register an individual call sighn
  2. put your call sighn in the box (case sensitive)
  3. press ok button
  4. next page select (Request a DTMF-ID to use the CCS service.)
  5. press ok
  6. next page fill in your details then press ok
  7. next page will ask you to up load your certificate and then submit it
It will then take a few days to be processed and then you should be able to connect to dcs and xrf channels

Let's hope this one don't do the same!

Well after the battery being plugged in and left off charge for 5 days I thought it was time to test it, switched it on and bingo it worked now to leave it on and see how long the battery will last.

I feel happy to have one they look a nice little radio

Won a new wouxun radio

Well at last I waited long enough and I found another wouxun 2mtr and 4mtr dual band radio, it was a lot more than the other one and was used but I haven't seen another one listed on eBay after I found the last deal.

I put a bid in and won it I guess I see if it was worth the extra pennies when I get it.

Arduino has arrived

Today my Arduino kit arrived in the post this is a programmable electronics projects board that you can make many projects and invent your own.

The Arduino board has been developed and made as open source so anyone can make them

my board is made by sansonic and the model is a mega, but there are lots of types made down to a nano. There is even one that is a computer as well as the programming board all in one.

what do you need? well basically you just need a base board a usb lead and the software downloaded from the site, I purchased a basic kit for £20.00p so I can get into it and start learning straight away, but you can buy items individually if you wish.

to find out more about these kits go to: arduino and have a look , also download the software once you purchase a board or a kit.

Installing the software:

I'm using windows 10 so I downloaded the software from ariduino (as the boards are all generic they all work with the software) and installed it, this was quite simple to do and caused no trouble. Then I plugged in the board and it installed the driver and recognised there was an arduino board attached, then I had a little fun setting up the board in the software

go to tools, scroll down and select the com port, then select the board, then its chipset, I found all this from where I purchased the item.

This is what came in the kit, led's resistors, bread boards, led displays, a relay board, small switches, a project board and jump wires to name a few that I know in the pack.

I cant wait to get stuck in

2nd time lucky (I hope)

Well I have to say the postage was fast and it was well packed in the box, I unwrapped it and it was in vey good condition.

I plugged it all in and it was dead, placed it on charge and left it, let's hope this one don't do the same as the last one!

Faulty battery

I took it down the club and Keith lent me another battery from his kit to test the radio.

Had a brief chat on the radio and turned it off, I all of a sudden heard a very faint humming combing from the battery, removed the battery and found the noise stopped.

I guess I found the issue to be the radio faulty! Got on to the chap I purchased the item from and informed him and without question he told me to post it back to him and he will refund the money.

A very honest man just a shame my eBay bargain wasn't to be!

What is D-Star?

I could try to explain D-Star but I dont think I could explain it as well as Icom put it

Raspberry PI

what is a raspberry pi?

There are five raspberry pi boards out there, the model A, A+, B, B+ and the pi zero,

This is a cheap but powerfull little computer that runs on a 2 amp micro usb card and an 8gb micro sd card, you will need a mouse and keyboard and a hdmi cable (an Ethernet cable or wifi dongle if you wish to connect to the Internet.

Why use this?

I got my 1st pi with the dv mega, it was set up and ready to go for the dv mega, after i got one i deiced i want to find out more about it and its quite a versatile little system for what you get and i hope to do more with one to understand it some time in the near future.

Power to the pi

Raspberry pi uses a 2amp micro usb plug to power it and over the space of a year it would cost approximately £4 to leave it on in the background all the time like i do with the dv mega

Back it up!

When you do things with your pi they can go one of two ways, it may work or it may not, before you do anything make a back up image of it as you may not like what its done or you may corrupt files and it wont work, some times the memory card may fail and then you will have to start over again, this ain't good if your running a dv mega as there is a lot of work involved to set it all up again

I want to find out more

Google raspberry pi and loads of information will come up on it or go to the main site pi official site

Where can i buy one

I found the cheapest  at the moment is Amazon
