I have been warned with the raspberry pi memory cards can occasionaly become corrupt and be unrecoverable so back the card up!
Why you ask? With things like the dv mega and the dv4 mini they take some time to tune the software and gert it right and have the memory card fail you loose all the software and operateing system and you will have to start again!
You can also make a mess of adjusting the settings on the system and maybe not be able to start the pi again!
The best thing to back up the card before you do anything and keep it somewhere safe, I recomend Win32 disk imager by sourceforge.net it's free to use but be warned you can write over your image you want to back up and loose it all so pay attention!
This is something I have wanted to get into for a while so at last I found a local club and got involved. I thought id blog about all the interesting things I learn in aid of helping others with how to get there UK ham radio licence and radios i use as i go through it all

VNC Viewer
In my house its not possible to use the telly for my raspberry pi so i
need another way to operate it and i was advised to download this app
so i can operate my raspberry pi from a mobile device or my laptop from
off my wifi
you need to set your pi with a fixed ip address for this to work then install the app on the equipment you want to run it from (ie PC, ipad, android)
in the vnc server you input the fixed ip address for the pi and encryption is let vnc server choose and press connect
it will ask you for the password and with the pi its raspberry unless you change it
and away you go you should have a remote connection to your pi, it wont let me screen shot it to show you. but it will allow you to work your pi from vnc viewer.
you can also connect it to any PC or smart product so you can leave the telly free to be used by the family

Raspberry PI
what is a raspberry pi?
There are five raspberry pi boards out there, the model A, A+, B, B+ and the pi zero,
This is a cheap but powerfull little computer that runs on a 2 amp micro usb card and an 8gb micro sd card, you will need a mouse and keyboard and a hdmi cable (an Ethernet cable or wifi dongle if you wish to connect to the Internet.
Why use this?
I got my 1st pi with the dv mega, it was set up and ready to go for the dv mega, after i got one i deiced i want to find out more about it and its quite a versatile little system for what you get and i hope to do more with one to understand it some time in the near future.
Power to the pi
Raspberry pi uses a 2amp micro usb plug to power it and over the space of a year it would cost approximately £4 to leave it on in the background all the time like i do with the dv mega
Back it up!
When you do things with your pi they can go one of two ways, it may work or it may not, before you do anything make a back up image of it as you may not like what its done or you may corrupt files and it wont work, some times the memory card may fail and then you will have to start over again, this ain't good if your running a dv mega as there is a lot of work involved to set it all up again
I want to find out more
Google raspberry pi and loads of information will come up on it or go to the main site pi official site
Where can i buy one
I found the cheapest at the moment is Amazon
